Mothers Raising Sons1 is a faith-based Education and Support Program of The Virginia Male Adolescent Network. It originally began over nineteen years ago to address the alarming grim statistical outlook for African American males to the point of "extinction". Children of all races and economic levels face dire challenges in today's society.

Many of our young boys/men  have gained tremendous strides academically and professionally, yet the rates of  incarceration, substance abuse, homicide, under or unemployment and teenage parenting are  yet staggering.

This site is designed to provide practical  information, resources and  inspiration for single mothers/guardians raising sons by utilizing Christian principles as our foundation.  MRS1 has successfully conducted monthly group mentorship meetings, sports camps and seminars.  MRS1 has received local and state recognition. Our mission is to REACH ONE, SAVE ONE...To God Be the Glory!

Hope must become an absolute in raising sons. By faith, we redefine the way young men see themselves, each other  and the world around them.

Mothers Raising Sons (MRS1) would like to invite you,  church, organization, business and community to help change the atmosphere as our children return to school at a time that necessary  budgets demanded  staff,  resources and programs  reductions  occur.   It does not mean that this can not be a POSITIVE productive academic year.

In order to make a difference, we must build on a firm foundation, some say to heal the tree we must treat the root. We must look back to move forward, many strides have been made in the African American community, too many lost their lives so that we could attend integrated schools to obtain a quality education. Slaves prayed that the next generation would be free to expand their mind and spirit!

This call to action focuses on the inside out...knowledge is only limited by our own ability to pursue it and  failure is the inability to try another option.  Empowerment must come from within and be supported by external factors and enhanced by multifaced variables, but the desire and need must first be ignited. Knowing that each of us are created with a person and with value is part of that empowerment. As in the past following the light set before ...following others who have gone before us.  The greatest assistance we can give to help  recognize the mercy, power and love of God for His people. PRAY and keep praying until something happens. Mothers without father would go the court system for correction, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010 let us go back 6:00A, if we have enough moms, grandmoms, aunts, cousins, intercessors, yes, brothers, fathers, uncles, etc. praying for our children throughout the day the entire school year. Lifting Him up. Watch God!!!  We also have a prayer blog online.....Post your prayer!

We can all pray! But a child has to buy in that education is important. Children live in a materialistic, immediate society. Reality check...we must instruct today's youth to prepare themselves to make an adequate  living for the jobs that are available now in the near future. You can  PARTICIPATE!  Some ideas...tutor, be a school greeter, volunteer with a local youth group(share the 3 Ps),group mentorship.

Parents make this year that PTA meetings have the highest attendance records in years. Attend to parent/teacher conferences...go to school when there is absolutely nothing wrong. Schools, teachers,  nor the streets are equipped to raise your children...it is your job and no one else can do it like YOU! You have one chance..make it count!! Daily do overs!!! You will need help.....check out the support groups in your area!

Check out the blog for success programs and ideas....share!
